Snow Day!

It’s officially the first snow day of the year! Oh, happy day!

What makes it even better is the fact that our district let us know yesterday…at 1:30! I’m so thankful that we were able to plan and know ahead of time. It made for a much better night last night, not having to stay glued to the TV to see who was out. You’ve never done that, right?

Because they let us know so early, I decided to go ahead and tell my kiddos. No, I didn’t tell them right away. We hadn’t even taken our math test yet – I wasn’t going to get them wild before that! Once we had finished for the day, it was time for recess. We did a little “follow the leader” craft and made some snowflakes. Y’all, they were cracking me up! I could tell most of them had never made one before because they didn’t know what was going on. Their eyes got so big when I told them they could finally open it and they figured out what it was. One student asked, “Ms. Jackson, yours looks better than mine. Can I have it?” Bless him. Then another sweetie said, “They are all different, like all of us!” She’s a keeper, for sure.

Once we had our snowflake fun, I asked if they wanted to learn a new game. We played hangman! Granted, in hind sight I should have switched it up and made like a sad face or something that isn’t as graphic, but hey, it happened. Needless to say, they thought it was fun and got into it. It was fun watching their eyes light up as they started figuring out the “secret message”!

It was definitely a wise decision to wait and tell them until the last fifteen minutes of the day. Maybe they got a little wild after that. Let’s be real, I was rather giddy myself. I may have whipped and nae nae-ed with them.

Here’s to a fantastic snow day! As you can see from “Poose the Moose,” our house has gotten around 3 inches thus far. I don’t expect much more, but I’m sure not complaining. I’ll take a snow day any day.

Did you get a snow day? How did you spend it?
